Jessie brought his own creative percussion concoction to our 21st Annual Holiday Family Concert. The brand new Cathy & Marcy SongShop washboards were a hit - dozens of them played by young fans at the show with the Cathy & Marcy & Billy Jonas band.  Below are a few tips on playing. Second picture is of special guest, We're placing another order of washboards & they should arrive soon. (click read more)
PLAY THE WASHBOARD!

You can play the washboard with just about anything!   You’ll need two things, one for each hand.  They don’t need to be the same.  Mix them up and see what you like best. Practice playing quiet & loud. Play along with your favorite music or make up your own songs.

Here are some suggestions:

Small whisks, Wooden Spoons, Metal Spoons, Plastic Spoons, Vegetable brushes, Chop Sticks
Bundles of plastic Straws held together with rubber bands, Bundles of coffee stir sticks, Small straw wisk brooms, Plastic Combs, Plastic Pen with top intact, Handfuls of Pens, Thimbals, Guitar Fingerpicks, Gloves with bottle caps glued to the fingers
Note:  If these things belong to your parents you might want to ask them if you can use them before playing your washboard.

Your washboard is great just like it is.  If you want to add some extra sounds, here are some ideas. You can attach stuff with industrial Velcro or get help with tools to use more sophisticated fasteners.

Bike Horn, Cow Bell , Metal Light Switch Plate, Wooden or Plastic Woodblock, Any kind of bells, Tuna Can, Small Pots and Pans, Kazoo, Whistles, Pot Lid (for a cymbal)
Add things to your washboard just until you think you might get in trouble.  Then take one thing off.  Perfect!

Send in photos of your washboard fun to: info@cathymarcy.com. You might end up in the www.songshop.cathymarcy.com blog or photo book online.
HAVE FUN!
