Meet Cathy & Marcy
We're Cathy & Marcy. We've been making music together for kids and families for over 20 years! We perform all over the world to audiences big and small. Our favorite part of performing is when everyone joins in. In fact, at our shows, we have the best seats in the house - watching and hearing YOU sing together, play your air guitars, smile, giggle and join in the fun. We love music that's highly participatory and we indulge in silly songs, story songs, sing-a-longs and songs with American Sign Language! This is music your family can grow up with-not music they'll grow out of!
We've got songs and CD's for little ones and also for older kids, though mostly everyone listens together. Our eclectic repertoire includes folk to country to old-time stringband to jazz and swing music and the recordings include very cool musicians and bands. Our favorite part of performing is interacting with kids and adults in our audience. Even if you never heard our songs before, it'll be easy to sing along from the first song. Did you ever Scat Sing? Yodel like a cowgirl or cowboy? Have fun with tongue twisters? Hula hoop to Big Band Swing? All this and more in our live shows and on our recordings. We play the banjo, guitar, mandolin, steel drum, hand drums, pennywhistle, hammered dulcimer, washboard-well, not all at once and not all at every show. But there's always lots of variety in musical instruments and styles.
We have performed in concert halls, schools, festivals and clubs throughout the Untied States, Canada, Great Britain, Japan, Australia, New Zealand and Israel. Award Winning Music
We've won two GRAMMY awards and have eleven GRAMMY nominations. In 2005, we won a GRAMMY for our CD cELLAbration! A Tribute to Ella Jenkins. Lots of friends performed on that CD with us: Pete Seeger, Tom Chapin, Sweet Honey in the Rock, Bill Harley, John McCutcheon, Michele Valeri and more. Our first GRAMMY Award was in 2004 for the CD, Bon Appétit! Musical Food Fun. Both awards were for Best Musical Album for Children. We've also won awards from the American Library Association, Parents' Choice, National Parenting Publications, Oppenheim Toy Portfolio, Parent's Guide to Children's Media and 35 WAMMY Awards from the Washington Area Music Association. Our CD All Wound Up! A Family Music Party spent over a week as #1 on Amazon.com in all musical categories – not just for children's music!
